Chemo #1

My first of 12 chemo sessions is in the bag. Started me at 16:00 and I was finished by about 19:30. I was given a load of anti sickness pills, steroids and gout tablets before the chemo started. Four drugs were then administered, all intravenously. The first two drugs were large syringes, one of them was a bright red liquid which had later repercussions as it turned my weewee red! The remaining two drugs were large bags of fluid that were shielded in a red bag because they react to light - I think they turn to vodka and Red Bull. No real adverse effect during the infusion apart from a slight burning in my veins from the caustic Dicarbezene.

Kept in hospital overnight for monitoring - back on ward 303. All new faces on the ward apart from Martin - nappy guy, although the nappies are gone and he's on his feet, only just - he still seems shot away. I'm in Royston's old bed! Feeling a bit grotty now. Home tomorrow if I'm OK through the night.

Looks like the selfish NHS b******s have started your treatment out of synch with our shift pattern .... double decker bus run from Ardrossan to Crosshouse for you!! (so many wonderful sights to see on the journey ... if your lucky you will get the full detour round Pennyburn in Kilwinning!)
Kim is available for taxi service on a Friday though if required .. let us know.
Are you still interested in coming up to Montrose as an 'observor'? Let us know!! (that would prove you are really nored!)

All 'ra best!

Well the Toon must get some dignity back against the hammers today....or will they.
Remember that theres always a room available here at the Sunny Saltcoats Hilton if the weather stops you getting home. That is until the decorating starts and you'd have to make do with the basement or as i like to call it "the Gimp chamber".
Take care slim.

Hya Darren
Your cousin Jannine here! I've had a good read through and glad to see you are maintaining your great dry sense of humour! Its good to hear you are managing to get through all that awful treatment.
Just to let you know we are thinking of you all the time and I am being kept informed of your progress by "our Dave".
Love Jan (give my love to Marie & Lewis).

Hiya Darren,

I've only just managed to get to read your blog, couldn't access it for some reason (probably my shite computer or just me!) I have to say your writing technique is very witty, i thoroughly enjoyed reading up to date. Even though you're going through a tough time you've still got a great sense of humour and you sound so positive (when's your biography coming out?)
Glad to hear you got through chemo ok - hope it carries on like that for you.
The Coyne family send their love and we're all thinking of you.
Take care love Joanne xoxo
